Corfu Kumquat EDP 100 ml

A citrus fruit grecified by the sun, characterized by complexity and longevity. A penetrating freshness. Citrus peel exposed to salty sea air and rugged terrain. A moment of respite and unexpected depth. Corfu Kumquat takes its name and raw material from the royal Greek island of Corfu. Kumquats proliferate on the island of Corfu. These small, bitter, oval-shaped, orange fruits arrived in Greece from China in the 1800s. Today they are grown largely on the north coast, made into liqueurs and sweets sold on the island where Prince Philip grew up. “When you arrive in Corfu you are amazed by the beauty of the island, the architecture and the history,” says Robert Gerstner, co-founder of Aedes de Venustas. “Empress Elizabeth didn't spend months and months there for nothing.” When the time came for the founders of Aedes de Venustas, Gerstner and Karl Bradl, to imagine a citrus perfume that was in line with their baroque style, they asked for the help of Greek perfumer Ilias Ermenidis, who immediately thought of the its homeland, with all its rich royal charm and natural beauty. In summary for him: a mysterious citrus fruit, with the mood of the Aedes perfumery in mind. Nothing sweet or simple. Knowing that citrus scents tend to fade more quickly, he paired kumquat with Calabrian bergamot, an invigorating squeeze to signal the dawn of something new. The scent of Calabrian bergamot, the protagonist of Earl Gray tea, comes from the thick rind of the fruit. It brings a spicy note that is balanced by notes of mandarin, clementine and neroli. Salty ambrox and mystical frankincense take us to a seascape. Ginger, lavender, Granny Smith apple and rhubarb add a rounded fruitiness to the center. Alaskan cedar, coming from a tree species of the cypress family, vetiver, captive mosses and tonka weave the dark base that unconsciously holds the citrus cocktail together. Perfumer Ilias Ermenidis describes a "unique and joyful emotion in creating an accord so close to my heart, where kumquat from the island of Corfu marries with Calabrian bergamot and where salty ambrox and mystical frankincense are there to remind us where in the world we are traveling with our senses."
