During a trip to Kyoto, Annick Goutal was overwhelmed by a heady scent of gardenia. It was the rainy season when humidity enhances the odors of plants. The scent of gardenia was everywhere: in the gardens, along the roadsides, at the entrances of the temples: Annick picked up a flower and decided to capture its subtle, rich and mysterious scent.
